An exciting opportunity for a Battery Diagnostic Engineer to join a leading automotive engineering team in Warwickshire, supporting HV traction battery testing, diagnostics, and automation across advanced EV and hybrid vehicle programmes. This role focuses on battery test operations, fault diagnosis, CAN and Ethernet network analysis, data visualisation, and development of automation tools to improve test efficiency and system validation. Ideal for candidates with experience in high-voltage battery systems, automotive diagnostics, CANoe/CANalyzer, data analysis, and EV powertrain testing within automotive or electrification environments.

Duties:
The Battery Diagnostic Engineer role will focus on the delivery of HV Traction battery testing across the fleet, alongside delivering automation tools in support of the development and design verification (DV) of such systems. You will operate across our internal facilities and external test houses solving complex problems, supporting DV engineers, reviewing RFQ's before tender ensuring the information is correct, managing automation tools, leading the development of these tools and guiding our colleagues and partners on their use, ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures and planning for future test capabilities, requirements and applications.
You'll have responsibility for providing the first line trouble shooting and diagnostic support for all automation tools and issue management across our battery test field.
You'll be working with a wide range of engineering customers, skilled test facility operators, suppliers, external agencies and organisations.
You'll have responsibility for providing tools and analysing issues across the field to ensure minimal downtime and maximum test efficiency.
- Technical expertise in HV Battery and Charging technology and facility operations.
- Highly proficient in data analysis and visualisation tools and platforms including AVL Concerto, CANalyzer, Tableau, Minitab
- CAN/FlexRay/LIN/Ethernet Communication protocols, including use of CANoe and CANalyzer for HV system analysis, diagnostics and test automation
Skills:
- Educated to a minimum of Degree level in a Automotive, Electrical/Electronic or related field.
- Experience with automotive network interface tools (such Vector CANalyzer/CANape/CANoe, INCA).
- Comprehensive understanding of High Voltage HEV/BEV powertrain systems.
- The ability to validate, prepare and read engineering documents and electrical schematics.
- Significant experience of data analysis and reporting issues to first-line and senior management
- Natural problem-solver with structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment.
- Strong knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS.
- Significant experience with data acquisition and control systems.
- Technical expertise and significant experience of test facility operations and system under test preparation.
- Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, process documentation and Single Point Lessons (SPL).
- A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualifications.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of Powertrain propulsion systems, test facilities and associated processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of Lithium Ion Battery technology.
- Knowledge of data collection and communication systems (esp. AVL Lynx)
- Experience in a measurement or test environment, inc. project planning and control.
- Capability of representing the company at external test houses.
- Six Sigma, Black Belt and Green Belt Training and certification.
- Experience of Health & Safety regulations, reporting and monitoring compliance.
- Understanding of International standards (ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO14001, ISO 17025).
- Proficient in the use and application of a programming / scripting language (C/C++, python, Java, CAPL, or similar)
