Duties
- Preparing samples such as instrument calibration samples and test samples from battery cell components using fume hoods, gloveboxes, calibrated pipettes, balances, and microwave digesters.
- Operating analytical instrumentation including GC-MS and ICP equipment; previous experience with these systems is essential.
- Supporting materials engineers to maintain a safe and productive workflow of analytical samples throughout the laboratory.
- Following all laboratory safety procedures and maintaining familiarity with COSHH documentation, risk assessments, and other relevant safety instructions.
- Using workflow and instrument software to create and maintain accurate records of analysis and produce basic reports using PowerPoint and Excel.
- Assisting with additional analytical techniques and equipment such as XPS, ICP-OES, TGA, DSC, and XRD, with training provided where appropriate.
- Performing battery cell teardowns using mechanical tools when required.
- Conducting all activities in accordance with business values of Customer Love, Unity, Integrity, Growth, and Impact, with a strong focus on Safety, Quality, and Delivery.
- This is a fully onsite, hands-on technician role and is not suitable for hybrid or remote working.
Skills & Experience
- Experience using chemistry instrumentation such as GC-MS or related analytical equipment.
- Experience using wet chemistry techniques.
- Ideally experienced with XPS, ICP, TGA, and gloveboxes.
- Strong awareness and respect for working with hazardous materials, with a safety-first mindset and no complacency.
- Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and follow strict procedures.
Education
Level 4 qualification in Chemistry, such as an HND, is advantageous.
