Main purpose of the role:
The Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes. The primary purpose of the role is to design, implement, and refine manufacturing methods for the product portfolio, optimizing workflow and minimizing waste while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The role serves as a bridge between design, manufacturing, and maintenance teams, ensuring that products are manufactured effectively, cost-efficiently, and to specification. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer will drive innovation and process improvements to support the company's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Scope of the role:

The manufacturing engineer focuses on designing, implementing and improving manufacturing processes. The manufacturing engineer will also be responsible for delivering CAPEX projects for the specification and delivery of new manufacturing machinery with a target to ensure efficient, high quality and cost effective production.

Primary Objectives:
  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability and quality of products.
  • Monitor and maintain manufacturing equipment to ensure peak performance and minimize downtime.
  • Support the introduction of new products and technologies into the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing issues.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, including work instructions, process maps, and equipment manuals.
  • Promote and enforce health and safety standards within the manufacturing environment.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing or Six Sigma projects.

Primary measures of effectiveness
  • Cycle Time Reduction - Ability to minimise the time taken to manufacture a garage door without compromising quality.
  • Downtime Reduction - Effectiveness in reducing unplanned machine stoppages and ensuring quick recovery after breakdowns.
  • Equipment Utilisation Rate - Measurement of how effectively machinery is being used during manufacturing hours.

Secondary objectives
  • Implementation of lean practice - Adoption of practices like 5S and six sigma to improve workflow.
  • Process improvement processes - Improvement of processes to achieve greater efficiencies.
  • Innovation adoption - Adoption of new innovative processes and equipment.

Qualifications - Skills - Experience required for the role
  • Track record of implementing process change in a manufacturing environment.
  • Track record of delivering CAPEX projects with external suppliers in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering or similar role.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks through to completion.
  • Proactive and energetic approach.
  • Detail-conscious.
  • Strong Knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment and quality control.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Good planning, able to remain focused and strong organisational skills.
  • Able to plan and prioritise own workload.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with manufacturing.
  • Proficient in use of CAD software, preferably Solidworks.
