Principal Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Coventry, UK or Prague, Czechia (Hybrid)
We're looking for an experienced Principal Embedded Software Engineer to develop low-level embedded software for advanced electrification projects, including battery management, power conversion and electric vehicle control systems.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll play a key role in designing, developing and validating embedded software for real-time applications while helping to drive technical standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and test embedded software for microcontroller-based systems.
- Develop software in C/C++ for real-time embedded applications.
- Implement device drivers and communication protocols including CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C and UART.
- Support software architecture, requirements capture and documentation.
- Carry out software verification, debugging and integration testing.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems and validation engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
- Support continuous improvement of software processes, tools and coding standards.
About You
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience developing embedded software.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
- Experience with embedded debugging tools and version control.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, SPI and I2C.
- Experience working within safety-critical or high-integrity industries such as automotive, aerospace, marine or energy is highly desirable.
Desirable Experience
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Power electronics or power conversion systems
- Functional Safety (ISO 26262), ASPICE or similar standards
- CAN tools such as CANalyzer, CANape or INCA
