Principal Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Coventry, UK or Prague, Czechia (Hybrid)

We're looking for an experienced Principal Embedded Software Engineer to develop low-level embedded software for advanced electrification projects, including battery management, power conversion and electric vehicle control systems.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll play a key role in designing, developing and validating embedded software for real-time applications while helping to drive technical standards and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test embedded software for microcontroller-based systems.
  • Develop software in C/C++ for real-time embedded applications.
  • Implement device drivers and communication protocols including CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C and UART.
  • Support software architecture, requirements capture and documentation.
  • Carry out software verification, debugging and integration testing.
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems and validation engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement of software processes, tools and coding standards.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience developing embedded software.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience with embedded debugging tools and version control.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, SPI and I2C.
  • Experience working within safety-critical or high-integrity industries such as automotive, aerospace, marine or energy is highly desirable.

Desirable Experience

  • Battery Management Systems (BMS)
  • Power electronics or power conversion systems
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262), ASPICE or similar standards
  • CAN tools such as CANalyzer, CANape or INCA
