Quality Inspector
Location: Stoke-on-Trent
Main Purpose of the Role
To verify and document the conformity of incoming materials, in-process work, and finished products against approved specifications, drawings, and quality standards. The Quality Inspector acts as the front line of product assurance, ensuring that only conforming product moves forward in the manufacturing process, and that evidence of inspection and traceability is maintained in accordance with ISO 9001 and Factory Production Control (FPC) requirements
Scope of the Role
The Quality Inspector operates across all stages of production, from goods-in through to final inspection and release. The role covers dimensional, visual, and functional inspection, defect identification, nonconformance recording, and maintenance of traceability documentation. The position provides factual inspection data and feedback to the Quality Manager, Continuous Improvement Engineer, and Manufacturing Engineer to support root cause analysis, process improvement, and compliance verification. By managing nonconformities, supporting audits, and ensuring calibration and process capability, the quality inspector helps the business achieve consistent quality, reduce waste, and strengthen customer confidence.

Primary Objectives
- Ensure that all products are inspected and verified against approved drawings, specifications, and standards before release.
- Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming products, maintaining proper control and traceability.
- Perform and record inspections at goods-in, in-process, and final stages, ensuring all relevant documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Support FPC compliance by maintaining clear inspection records, batch traceability, and verification evidence for audits.
- Provide accurate inspection data and feedback to engineering and quality teams for process and product improvement.
- Undertaking of audit activities of the management system to include; pre-audit planning, audit execution and evaluation, post-audit follow-up, including nonconformance reports and the agreement of robust corrective actions to prevent further recurrence
- Report daily, weekly, and monthly on performance in line with KPI's.
- Demonstrate leadership by consistently upholding and modelling the highest standards of safety, quality, and workplace behaviour, setting a positive example for others to follow
- Support calibration and verification of inspection tools and gauges to ensure measurement integrity.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties or tasks as requested by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support operational needs and business objectives
- Ensure 100% calibration compliance of measuring equipment and test equipment.
- Number and accuracy of NCRs raised, with supporting evidence and traceability; ensuring the close out of 90% of NCR's within 10 working days, to include verified root cause and planned effectiveness check.
- Timeliness and completeness of inspection documentation and records.
- Compliance with FPC traceability and ISO 9001 audit requirements (no major findings).
- Ensuring the accuracy of dimensional and visual inspection results, validated by re-inspection or audit sampling undertaken by the Quality Inspector.
- Provide factual input to CI projects and root cause analysis exercises when requested.
- Contribute to maintaining 5S and workplace organisation standards within inspection and production areas.
- Identify opportunities for improved inspection methods, fixtures, or documentation formats.
- Support training of production personnel on defect identification and quality awareness.
- Assist the Quality Manager during internal and external audits by supplying inspection records and traceability evidence
- Degree or equivalent in related discipline.
- Green Belt Six Sigma.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good time management abilities.
- Knowledge and ability to understand and apply ISO Quality Principles, along with a good understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001.
- Ideally experienced in door manufacture and hardware.
- Proven track record in problem-solving.
- Good reasoning skills combined with perseverance, and the ability to overcome objections in the correct manner.
- Used to a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of working unsupervised, and the ability to take ownership of tasks through to completion.
- Fully competent in modern manufacturing processes.
- Experienced in continuous quality improvement.
