Chief Software & Controls Engineer
Location: Coventry, UK or Prague, Czechia (Hybrid)
We're seeking an experienced Chief Software & Controls Engineer to lead the development of embedded control software for advanced electrification programmes, including battery management, power conversion and electric vehicle control systems.
This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for defining software strategy, leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering high-quality software solutions for safety-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and delivery of embedded control software for real-time systems.
- Own the software development lifecycle, from requirements through to verification and release.
- Define software architectures and promote scalable, reusable design.
- Lead software testing and validation, including MIL, SIL and HIL.
- Drive compliance with functional safety and cybersecurity standards.
- Mentor engineers, conduct technical reviews and champion software best practice.
- Work closely with systems, hardware and validation teams to deliver customer-focused engineering solutions.
About You
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- 10+ years' experience in embedded software and controls engineering.
- Strong background in embedded C/C++, model-based development and real-time control systems.
- Experience leading software teams and delivering complex engineering programmes.
- Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, LIN, SPI and I2C.
- Experience within safety-critical industries such as automotive, aerospace, marine or energy is highly desirable.
Desirable Experience
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Power electronics and power conversion
- Functional Safety (ISO 26262), ASPICE, IEC 61508 or DO-178C
- Cybersecurity (ISO 21434)
- MATLAB/Simulink, CANalyzer, CANape or INCA
